Sunday School is unique over other small group ministries in that it is a holistic way to “do church.” This is seen in two ways: (1) Sunday School does not embrace just evangelism, or just discipleship, or just community, or just fellowship, or just ministry. Sunday School embraces them all! (2) Sunday School does not provide a small group experience for just adults, or just youth, or just children. Sunday School embraces all generations! These two factors make Sunday School the most effective way to provide
a holistic small group for the whole church body.
In his book, High Expectations, Dr. Thom Rainer said, “We have known that Sunday School is a vital component of the past for American churches. Its history is almost as old as our nation itself. But more and more the research indicates that Sunday School is not only our past, it is our future as well. And we who are leaders in the church will ignore this reality to our churches’ peril.”
A Sunday School class is a living organism of the Body of Christ where members mutually participate in fellowship,
Bible study, ministry, accountability, and mission by a shared contribution of gifts, resources, and sacrifice.
Sunday School is so important we can no longer afford to ignore her or her leaders. Bring your leaders and see your
Sunday School soar to new heights!
I look forward to seeing you March 15-16 in Woodstock.
